Ubuntu is a computer operating system originally based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution and distributed as free and open source software with additional proprietary software available.
It is named after the Southern African ethical principle Ubuntu ("humanity towards others"). Ubuntu provides an up-to-date, stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on usability and ease of installation. Web statistics suggest that Ubuntu's share of Linux desktop usage is about, and upward trending usage as a web server.
Ubuntu (operating system)
well, personally, I define Ubuntu as operation system which gives you the opportunity to express yourself, your style and your energy. There are more than one type of Ubuntu and here is a list of these operation systems:
1) Ubuntu.

- Ubuntu Netbook.
- Ubuntu Server Edition.
- EduUbuntu.
2) Kubuntu.

3)XUbuntu.

However, for every one of these types has special properties and features which are different from each other.
Which Ubuntu to pick? will help you to choose one of these.
